VicBeach was born out of a passion to expand our brilliant sport and deliver events and activities on behalf of the broader beach volleyball community.

Originally begun by beach legends, Peter "Chico" Jones and Greg Jury, then joined by Tony Hampton, VicBeach has been very successful with its charter resulting in continued growth and awareness over many years.

VicBeach is currently run by Allister Lyne.

Allister "Big Al" Lyne

Big Al has been playing volleyball for the past 20 years. He started as an indoor player until he discovered the joys that beach volleyball can bring.  He has played all around this country as well as representing Australia throughout the rest of the world.  Al has a lot of experience as a tournament director; he has run world class events such as the World Police and Fire Games, the Australian Uni Games and the Australian Masters Games (twice). He is also the current Tournament Director of the Victorian State Beach Volleyball Series. Al has been coaching both indoor and beach for the past 17 years. He is able to relate to both children and adults effectively.

VicBeach is proud to support the following beach volleyball development programs and pathways:

Head coach of VBVA (Vic Beach Volleyball Academy) - the longest running beach specific academy in the country - Brett also looks after the open age Vic Beach 'Sunset Sessions' every Tuesday and Thursday from the start of October until the end of March.

As a player Brett has been competing since 88; winning his first AAA event at the age of 17. He toured China for Indoor; won a beach event in France while competing on their national tour; lost two finals in England, and spent time training in California. He finished the 99/00 season as the best player in NSW, winning nine events and losing two other finals.

The WRV Beach VolleySchool sessions have three target groups:
•    Junior/Beginner – Juniors new to the sport aged from 10-16 that want to learn the sport and most importantly want to have fun!
•    Squad – Athletes aged from 14-23 that are at a national standard, wanting to compete on the Vic Beach and/or Australian Beach Volleyball tours, aiming to be selected in the Junior Volleyball Victoria State team/Australian Junior team. The demographic is based on junior athletes seeking specialised beach volleyball coaching, open for all junior elite athletes across Melbourne.
•    Adult/Social – This group is open to all adults who want to be introduced to the sport and/or learn more about it, get some sand fitness, and socialise in a fun and supportive environment.

Each group will run on Sundays on the Maribyrnong Sports Academy Beach Courts (Enter via Gordon St, Maribyrnong 3032), with more sessions and locations added once daylight savings returns!
